Monk Space was established in 2007 as a full service FILM PRODUCTION STAGE and EVENT VENUE in the center of LA.  Located on the edge of Koreatown, convenient to all freeways, we are an adaptive use space housed in a 95 year-old brick building with tons of character and history. When renting from us you have the option of booking one of two stages, or book all access to the entire ground floor facility.  STAGE ONE, our warehouse, has distressed brick walls, concrete floors, a skylight, two shuttered windows, tall ceilings and load in through a pedestrian alley from the street and includes adjacent production rooms.

 

Included in the rental is power, WIFI, track lighting, A/C, four fully stocked bathrooms, makeup stations, as well as limited supply of tables and chairs. In-house we also provide the following for rental:

  • Event Lighting (Uplighting, Wash Lighting, Intelligent Lighting, Pin-Spots, Dance Lighting)

  • Pro Sound (powered speakers, monitors, wireless microphones, audio mixers, audio technicians)

  • Live Bands, DJ's, Emcees, String Ensembles (weddings, parties, social, corporate and private events)

  • Video and Still (4K HD Projector, Screens, Videography, Photography)

  • Photo-Booth (Attendant, Props, Photo Strips, Social Media Shareable)

  • Additional Tables, Chairs and Furniture

  • Main features include rough distressed brick throughout, with a patch of textured white stucco, a corner with aged yellow brick walls, and two 1930s, original sliding wood doors.  

  • An overhead skylight can be opened, along with two south facing shuttered windows to let in natural light otherwise,the stage can be completely blacked out.  

  • There is great sound isolation from the outdoors.  

  • We have an overhead grid with ceiling electric for lighting.  

  • The room can be treated for perfect sound when needed.

  • There is an adjacent vine covered courtyard that gets plenty of afternoon light, a lobby and production rooms with three bathrooms, plenty of areas to setup makeup, wardrobe, craft services, catering preparation, green room or other production needs.

  • All rooms have strong AC, heat if needed, and wifi access.  

  • 240 amps of Single Phase power distribute  through 110 volt double gang outlets.  

  • A pedestrian alley allows for easy, ground floor load from the street

  • There are restored 1920s vintage walls with aged windows, doors, welded iron security bars and textured paint.  

  • One full wall has distressed black brick with exposed piping, which is opposite a back-lit, wood-plank wall. No light seepage allows for full control of light and sound.  

  • An overhead grid with ceiling electric distributes up to 100 amps of Single Phase power.  

  • Attached is a narrow back room to setup any production needs, as well as a private bathroom. All rooms have strong AC, heat if needed and wifi access.  

  • There is a separate sidewalk entrance as well as a massive roll up door for easy access from the street and back of the warehouse plus separate entrance into front lobby.

Amenities 

Loading Zone

There is a truck loading zone at 4406 W. 2nd Street. This allows loading from the street directly into our space through a short pedestrian alley. There is a one hour limit in the truck zone but with commercial plates you can stay for longer periods of time.

Street Parking

The immediate block of Monk Space is metered parking with one hour limit up until 6:00 pm. After 6:00 pm no restrictions. Free on Sunday. One block to the West and East is un-metered neighborhood street parking. No permits are required. For larger productions or events we suggest renting a neighboring school parking lot.  Ask for details. Be aware that Manhattan Place between 2nd and 3rd Streets has limited 2 hour parking during business hours. Also pay attention to street cleaning days which are Wednesdays and Fridays between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm for alternating streets
